I was wondering how many of you guys wear a mask when sanding body filler?

I was for a while but with the heat, I have been basically doing my sanding with a fan blowing behind me so that the dust blows away from me and out the door.

I know the bodyfiller isn't like asbestos, but just how bad is it?

Unless the spot is real small we wear a mask. Breathing anything other than clean fresh air is harmful so wear decent breath protection. The two strap dust masks are not too uncomfortable but the rubber 3M masks with changeable filters are better protection. It's better to be a little uncomfortable in warm weather than to cause yourself permanent health problems.

Filters for the 3M Respirators can be purchased separately.

I know the bodyfiller isn't like asbestos, but just how bad is it? Ill put it this way woodworkers have been known to get lung disease from wood dust,Silica causes silicosis of the lung.Body filler hasnt been around long enough to see the long term effects in medical studies but I am certain that the dust is harmful.Mike
