Spray Guns and Air Brushes

One of my favorite things about the new Iwatas

When I spray I change the direction of the pattern from time to time on almost every job.  I spray the conventional way, with the pattern in the vertical position then I'll spray up and down and I'll need to change the pattern to the horizontal position so I rotate the air cap to accomplish this.  On most spray guns the collar that holds the fluid tip tight must be loosened to accomplish this change, this means that you've got to hold the gun in one hand then loosen the collar, turn the air cap then hold the cap in the new position while tightening the cap.   With the Iwata the air cap floats on a Teflon seal and can be easily rotated while the cap is still tight making it unnecessary to go through any contortions while painting.

Another thing I like about the Iwatas

The larger guns are SOOO easy to clean compared to other more complicated spray guns.  There is only one valve actuator that is attached to the trigger, you know, on other guns they have two rods that the trigger moves, not the new Iwatas,  they only have one making it easier to clean the outside.   Inside there are no gaskets, everything is fitted so that it seals when the 4 parts (cap, tip, needle and cup) are assembled.  When I'm done spraying I always disassemble my equipment and clean it but not because I like doing it but the Iwata guns make it a breeze to accomplish.

One more thing I like about the Iwatas

I've been spraying paint for over thirty years now and I find that most spray guns, except for some radical guns, feel about the same in your hand.   That is, until I used the W-400 and the LPH-400.  These guns are extremely comfortable to spray paint with because of their slender design.  When the trigger is pulled it's almost like you're making a fist with nothing in it.  In my evaluation of these guns I managed to paint, among other things, one bus and one large truck and had a good chance to feel the benefit of the ergonomic design of this equipment.
It's great.

If Sata is the Mercedes of spray guns then Iwata is the Lexus

HP-A and HP-B
The HP-A is a high quality professional airbrush designed for precise control and fine detail work. Its fine needle/nozzle configuration allows for excellent atomization. The 1/32oz. (.9ml) fluid cavity is perfect for spraying small amounts of media. This is the airbrush of choice for medical illustrators, fingernail artists and detail illustrations..
The HP-B is similar to the HP-A except with a larger 1/16oz. (1.8ml) gravity feed color cup. The HP-B has excellent control and atomization and is great for illustration, photo retouching, and cake decoration.

  • 0.2mm fluid nozzle opening
  • In-the-body gravity feed color chamber
  • Adjustable main lever tension
  • Spray pattern: hairline to 3/4" (hairline to 20mm)
  • Duel Action trigger.

  •

    HP-C
The HP-C is the most versatile of the HP series airbrushes. Its larger 1/3oz. (9ml) gravity feed cup and larger needle/nozzle configuration allow for use with most media. Great for both fine work and larger background spraying. Fine artists, students, set designers, craft and decorative painters, often use the HP-C.
    • 0.3mm fluid nozzle opening

      Adjustable main lever tension

      Double action main lever

Spray pattern: hairline to 1" (hairline to 25mm)

    • Gravity feed cup

    HP-BC
The HP-BC is a high quality, bottom feed airbrush, for work where large volumes of media are required. The 3/4oz. (21ml) color jar fits snugly ot the airbrush using a twist on friction fit. A 1/2oz. (14ml) right- or left-handed color cup is also available for quick touch ups. Since it can handle heavy media, the HP-BC is often used in textile (T-shirt) painting, large studio work, and often for backgrounds and murals
    • HP-BC - 0.2mm or 0.3mm fluid nozzle

      HP-BC2 - 0.4mm fluid nozzle

    • Double action main lever

    Eclipse - BCS
The Eclipse airbrush is available in three sets: airbrush with bottle set, airbrush with bottle set and air hose and in a 6 pack airbrush only set.

    Eclipse - CS
This gravity feed Eclipse CS features a .35 mm needle and nozzle combination, as well as a generous 1/3 oz. sized cup. The new funnel design of the cup makes clean-up easier and also means that less paint is wasted. The short distance from cup to nozzle allows for more consistent paint flow, too. Fine artists and students alike will appreciate how well the Eclipse CS sprays heavier acrylics and Media Textile Colors while maintaining very fine spray characteristics.

    Eclipse-SA
The Eclipse SA is Iwata’s first single-action airbrush features a .5 mm nozzle, bottom-feed and internal mix spray pattern that will raise the standards of the single action airbrush to new heights. For those hobbyists who prefer a single action airbrush, the Eclipse SA offers the best in atomization and consistency. Plastic and resin model kit painters, diorama painters and industrial and auto body painters will find the SA unsurpassed in the single-action market.

    Micron Series Airbrushes

The Custom Micron Series is for the elite professional who demands precise and accurate control of very detailed spraying. These airbrushes are the "best of the best", hand tested and adjusted by the world's leading airbrush technicians. Special machining processes along with the meticulous hand-fitting of the parts creates an airbrush with superb atomization and incredible control of very detailed spraying. By removing the nozzle cap, these airbrushes will spray an entire range of stipple effects, from very fine to coarse textures. The Custom Micron airbrushes feature a special "head system" which has all of its parts matched and tested together as a set. The head system is tested, adjusted, and retested until the spray characteristics are as perfect as an airbrush can be. Each head system is sold only as a set and is the key to the superb performance of a Custom Micron Airbrush. Maintenance and reliability is at its absolute highest level since spare head systems can be purchased to ensure the Custom Micron will always spray to its maximum potential.

    Micron - CM-B

Designed for the most demanding professional, the CM-B is considered one of the finest airbrushes in the world. The Iwata Custom Micron matched head system insures superior atomization. It features a 1/16oz. (1.8ml) gravity feed fluid cup, which is small enough to see over the top of while working. The highly polished stainless steel needle provides smooth trigger action and paint flow.

    Micron - CM-C
The CM-C is ideal for professional use where heavier paints are required or where larger work is being created. The Iwata Custom Micron matched head system insures superior atomization. The CM-C features a larger 1/4oz. (7.0ml) gravity feed color cup for working with large volumes of paint.
