Small section piece advice please
Hi ppl, had a few questions for here and in filler.
The roof section that was repaired has cracked through the filler and the new paint work on both sides, my mistakes obviously, still a learner even at 55, anyway I will be grinding out the old filler, cut out the sections that were welded in before, rather unsuccessfully, never mind, the sections are around 23 x 4 inches, new strips will come from donor doors, my question is, when I have a clean hole, do I use a hole punch around the perimeter and spot weld in two base pieces top and bottom with a gap of 1/2 inch, then butt the new donor pieces in? or just butt weld the new pieces in with the base piece?. Should I spray a rust converter/treatment on the inside before welding the new pieces in, with Flux core, if you advise me to will get gas, cost is a bit rich. When finished welding either flux or gas should I treat the new welds with a product to prevent any future rust, in Australia we use Colgal over new welds, or just lay some metal filler over when cold?
Sorry to be a pain in the Butt some learners just need guidance:rolleyes:
Thanks in advance
