Where to start
Yes Iím a newbie but Iím willing to put the time and effort into learning and actually doing my project.
I have been looking at a ford mustang 70í and just did some planning, how what where and most important how much. Looking at all the post I still canít make out where to start with repainting a car?
The main idea I get is:
Get it down to bear metal
Use bondo were needed
And then a topcoat/clear
Am I on the right track?:confused:
Tanks really would appreciate any help
In your post you stated " how much is most important". Depending on the amount of work needed and the type of work needed to restore that '70 Mustang it could very easily run you many thousands of dollars for you to restore that car yourself. Unless you have a turn key shop availabel with all the the tools you'll need then that part alone is at least a couple grand for just the basics. I have at least $30,000.00 worth of tools, welders, paint guns etc etc etc that has taken me 30+ years to accumulate and I still buy tools on regular basis.
The best suggestion I can offer you is to buy Lens video, it will be money well spent in the long run. That video will walk you through the basics from start to finish.
where to start
as someone,as I am sure many of us in the field ,I have "bitten off more than I could chew" on quite a few occasions.To avoid this I would say as I do to many of my customers,take someone in our field with you "after " you have made up your mind on which car of the many you have choosen,this makes it easier on us because we don't have to keep going out and giving you bad news.If you already have the car,call in someone you may know that is a "professional"and not just the back yard builder.As it was stated earlier,it does COST to build,so examine everything carefully,start with this list;
1) Are the parts available or am I going to have to buy junk
2)are all the hard to find things there ,moldings,locks ,TITLE,glass
3)is it feasible to build or is it just a pipe dream,I've seen many dreams turn to moeny pits!
4)can "I" do this,or am I going to have to sub out alot of it,I don't like to do interiore work although I can it is to time consuming for me to get involved in.
I don't try to discourage,trust me,I live be the theory of nothing ventured nothing gained,please just use your wallet BEFORE your heart,and go from there,if you need to know where to start,many of us will tell you ,your already in trouble.
