    Default Filler on the hood

Anyone see a problem using filler on the hood of my mustang? I dont need a lot just a skim coat over the whole thing. I have two concerns. One concern is that its long so it may flex some especially when opening and closing. And second it is over the engine so it will get pretty warm.

If the metal is properly prepared to accept the bondo (generic term for polyester body filler) and the bondo is not over 3/16" thick then the slight flexing of the hood opening and closing will have no effect. The heat from the engine is a non issue (unless of course the engine catches fire, then it would be big issue).

Why do you feel a need to butter coat the whole hood with bondo ?

As far as the hood flexing a little - you will have a hard time block sanding the filler and primer flat - if the hood is flexing some.

Thanks, The reason for coating the whole thing is its slightly wavey. Definitly not out more then 3/16 at most an 1/8 in some spots. The hood does give some so i will have to be carefull not to put too much pressure on the block. The concern was flexing when you are fighting the springs while opening and closing.

The hood does have a light coat of epoxy on it but i am going to sand it all off with 80 grit, clean it with thinner and then apply the filler.
