Thread: Primer sealer

    Default Primer sealer

I have a door I want to paint that has been painted before.
The paint is in really good shape however there are chips that I will repair. This door is a practice part I'm going to use some left over product. I have no plans to prime the whole door only the areas I work on.
My question is I don't know what the original paint is. Can a person seal over the repair and also the rest of the door which is just sanded? Or do you have to prime the whole door. I'm a bit confused with the use of sealer.
    Thanks Lawrence:confused:

you dont have to "prime" the whole door, and yes you can seal the whole door

Default Thanks for the info Now another question

I have a car prepped it is primed in 2k high build primer. I did this so that block sanding will bring out the low spots.
My question now is when I fill these low spots can I prime them with a primer in a spray can? If so what type of primer should I use? I plan to seal the whole car after the repairs are made and before final coat.
I plan to work on the parking lot rash in the evenings and don't want to mix up for the gun as this is time consuming that is why I would like to use spray cans.
    Thx Lawrence:confused:

I use good spray can primer only if I have 1 or 2 spots to do and plan on sealing. Other wise I would wait until the whole car is blocked and hit all the spots at one time
