I've never heard of an insurance company demanding a certain type of paint. They will want you to guarantee your work and if the paint should fail anytime down the road you'll need to repaint it for nothing. This means that you should use decent paint products but the insurance company may not want to pay you enough for the materials. Catch 22!

I'm currently self employed but I have worked for DRP shops, none of those shops paints had any connection to any insurance co's. If you think about it logically there is no way an insurance co could stipulate that you have to use a specific paint company. Each geographical area has places where one brand of paint is available and another brand is not and it varies with other geographical areas. My point being - the insurance company can't tell you that you have to use PPG or Dupont or R&M etc etc if that paint isn't available in your geographical area. I also think that most pro painters would tell the ins. co. that if they want their insureds cars painted correctly then leave the painter alone to use the materials he's familiar with that he knows will deliver professional results. There is a trend that I read about where the insurance companies are setting up their own body shops. Not DRP's but shops owned and operated by the insurance company. I can't picture independant body shops putting up with that but then the insurance companies have a lot of money to work with (and buy favors from the politicans who pass the laws).
