Default Is it B/C or single Stage?

Hey guys, Im still new sorta, my cars are painted with Base/Clear now and never used anything else, my brother has a Ford F150 truck and a BMW 5 Series, he wants me to paint a fender on his 92 BMW, and possible his truck door, question is, what do they use from the Factories? BC or Single Stage? How does one know.
    Thanks for the help.

    Default BC/CC from factory...

From factory they use bc/cc. One way to know is to sand the surface. If the dust or slurry (if wet sanding) is white it's clear coat you are sanding, if the dust is the color of the car then it's single stage..
    My 2 cents worth...

not true. bmw solid colors are most likely SS. metallic is definetly bc/cc. the ford is most always bc/cc

With white you can wet it to tell if it's been cleared. If it's SS the dust will still be white when wet but if it's bc/cc the dust will almost disappear in the water.

If you have a paint code I can tell you what you have. The paint store is probably going to ask you for a code also. If it's metallic it's bc/cc.
