    Default Spray Gun selection Help

    Len and others:

I am currently using a Sharpe Platunum HO with 1.4 tip. I purchased the gun used back in 2001. I am looking to get a new one, parts and tips are just not out there. I am on a budget so could you give me opinions on these guns Len sells. I have the compressor to run HVLP so that is not a concern but I need the best bang for the buck. Any others I left out please let me know.

    Finishline 3
    Sharpe Cobalt
    Sharpe Finex F300
    Durablock 7003 gms

    Thanks again

Out of the low-end guns you mention I prefer the 7003. I carry parts for the Dura-Block guns but the DeVilbiss guns and parts are more widely available.

    Len:

What about the quality of the spray.

I didn't know the quality of the platnum when I purchased it used. I just knew I wanted to try painting and the price was right. Now years later I am doing a pretty good job and am looking for the best I can get on a budget.

    Thanks again

While the 7003 may not be as good as higher priced guns it's about the best I've seen in it's price range. The spray pattern is consistent and it atomizes quite well for the price.

One of the things that always bothers me about inexpensive guns is that most work decent for the first couple times but then start to sputter or spray unevenly after a few cleanings. The Finishline and the 7003 don't seem to have this problem and the 7003 seems to atomize a little better. Of course, if you step up to a $300 gun like the DeVilbiss Plus the quality of your result will reflect the higher quality tool but for guns in the $100 to $150 range the Dura-Block would be my choice for top coat applications.
