Etching Primer/Primer Question PPG Omni AU
Hello, I am currently painting a hood for a Jeep I am fixing up. It's not a show car, but I want to do a good job and use it as a learning opportunity. The hood is stripped to bare metal with a few areas repaired with filler. I am using Omni AU MTK Urethane Paint. I have also purchased the MP-176 etching primer. Does the etching primer have to be top-coated with another primer before the finish coat? Do I have to use Sealer? What would the steps be required after the applocation of the etching primer? Thanks

Tim if the hood was not repaired then it would be fine to spray the AU over the etch primer. But since there was repair work done then the odds are those repaired areas need to be guidecoat block sanded. Etch primer is not a fill primer and has very little build up so it really sucks for blocks sanding surface imperfections. Thats what 2K urethane high build primer is for. If you're happy with the way the repaired areas feel flat to your hand and see no reason to guidecoat block sand those areas after you applied etch primer then it is acceptible to spray the AU topcoat paint over that etch primer.
