    Default Another Clearcoat Thread

Without going into great detail, my problem is similar to others (running clearcoat). I did a lot of searches on this site and have found some of the answers that I was looking for. However, I'm doing fiberglass motorcycle race bodywork that has many curves and sharp edges. I shaved the runs with a razor and will some attempt to blend them into the rest of the clear. I went to a local paint store looking for a run blocker or nib file which they never heard of (maybe because I live in Japan). I was shown and purchased some 3M Perfect it 2 5973 compound and was told this would work. Today, I came across a thread on this site that said the 3M product was difficult to use. Instead, use Sure Finish. I want to try the 3M stuff since I already have it. Here is my plan. Please tell me if I'm wrong.
    1. Try to wetsand the runs into the clear using 1000 grit followed by 1500 grit.
    2. Use the 3M 5973 to smooth the finish and further blend the clear coat.
    3. Buff the paint with a polishing compound and be finished.

I'm sure to have more questions, so please be patient with me.
    Thanks.

You have to BLOCK sand the run. You cant just wet sand it. But other than that, you should be fine

and to make sure that you get it flat and don't follow the run, I've heard of 800-grit on the block as stated, wet. Don't go too far though before switching to 1000, then 1500...
