Default Painting over Military OD Paint

I have bought some NOS Military parts for my M-37 Project. The parts are painted in Military OD. They were still wrapped in paper. The OD Paint is perfect. Can I shoot PPG MP-170 over the OD. I will then shoot PPG MP-180 then Base Clear. Or do I have to blast all the OD off and then Shoot PPG MP-170

    Thank You
    Paul

Paul, I've been a professional autobodyman/painter for the last 35 years and I have never painted over anything that was OD green or camo. But paint is paint. What I suggest you do is wet a rag or a paper towel with some automotive grade lacquer thinner and apply that lacquer rag to the OD green piece. Let is set for about a minute. If the OD paint hasn't bubbled like you applied paint stripper and if the lacquer thinner didn't dissolve the OD paint and transfer to the lacquer rag then you should be good to go. Wash the piece really well with wax and grease remover to eliminate any contaminants on the OD part Get a red scotchbrite scuff pad and scuff the OD part. Wash the part again with wax and grease remover then apply your omni epoxy. Should work out fine.

That M37 is one serious 4X4 truck. Does it still have the 320 cu. in. flat head six engine in it ?

No my M-37 is powered with a Cummins 4BTA into a NV-4500 with a married NP-205 T case. Full pictures are located at'

While your there, also check out the 1943 Dodge Carryall and Bumblebee projects. The Carryall is also Cummins powered. The Bumblebee will get a Cummins when the M-37 is complete.

I took the 1943 CArryall on a Trans Labrador Expedition this past summer.
Pictures and story are in the Trans Labrador 2005 Album.
