Default Do scuff pads become less abrasive the more you use them?

I've been using a scuff pad for primer for a while now and I've noticed it does not really become less abrasive the more I use it (unlike sandpaper). Do scuff pads actually ever lose their abrasiveness?

It depends on the characteristics of the primer, if it sands without filling the pad too quickly then it can be used for a longer time. But if the primer is gummy or harder it can clog or wear on the pad. For many jobs we'll cut the pads in half before we put them to work.
