Default Volvo 940 - Rust rear quarter arch

    Hi there,

My 940 is 24 years old it is showing a rusty point along the arch inner edge and a specific point.
Now, I have removed the rust as per the image below:

I took some pictures from the inner part, not too much rust there, luckily, I will remove it all:

Given that the finish is not important in that area, I want to make sure I use the best anti-rust paint, looking on the Internet I found this one:

    • I would like to have your opinion on the above product.
    • Is there any additional product I should use before/after the anti-rust?
    • I was also thinking if it would beneficial to use a door guard profile for the inner part, do you think it would help?

I live in Canada, so snow, ice, and salt.

    Thank you!
    Alex

Where the underneath of the panel is rusted through I would wire brush it to clean it well then apply a couple of coats of Zero Rust or another "good" product then apply a "good" seam sealer like Fusor Seam Sealer. I'm sure they are both available in Canada.

    Hi Len,

    Many thanks for your advice.

When it comes to the seam sealer, I'd rather prefer to use a brushable one given that it is easier to use for the inner part of the arch.
However, it does not look like they sell a 1 pint can, for the job I have to do, I do not need much.
3M does sell a 1 quart can, but here in Canada is ridiculously expensive.

    • If I find another good brand that sells 1 pint, how long does a can last if it is closed and stored properly?
    • The same question would be for either the Zero Rust or POR15

    Thank you,
    Alex
