Question Tell Me How To Prep Rusty Hood Please

    Hi Guys

Got a '66 Mustang Hood for a fellow church member for $75.00
The hood doesn't have rot holes on it. However, it has surface RUST!

I never prepared a piece of metal before so please bear with me. I can follow instruction very well if that means anything

I want to give it to him primed.

Can you please give me step by step instructions such as:
    What to do First.
    What rust convert to use.
    What primer to use.
    How to complete the project.

Like I said before gentlemen: BEAR WITH ME PLEASE.

I have a sandblaster, but I haven't used it YET! Don't know what kind of material I should use to blast the rust with  That's if you guys
want me to use another method I will.

O.K. guys I'm in your hands. Take me to school

Thank you all & GOD BLESS.

    Schooner

If it's just surface rust I'd hit with the DA & 80grit.

oh, & then Metal Prep followed by a coat of epoxy primer

    Default It depends...

If the rust is too difficult to remove with sandpaper you could blast it BUT blasting can warp the metal quite easily and you could distroy the hood. I would probably sand it then CONVERT the rust with some Picklex 20 then epoxy prime it. The Picklex 20 can stabilize the rusted metal so that the primer can do it's job without the rust coming back to haunt you.
