Default metal prep / clean before fiberglass filler?

i know its best to spray epoxy over the bare metal befor filler. if you do this old school and put the filler on bare metal do I need to to clean the metal with something after grinding sanding / cutting rust away?

As long as your bare metal is clean, with no rust, and has some decent scratches in it from grinding you can just apply your filler on the metal. If you still have rust it's best to stabilize it prior to applying the filler. We use Picklex 20 to stabilize the rust.

Thanks, thats what i was thinking, but i love wiping stuff down in acetone, alcohol, degreaser just to be safe. This is my first time working on bare ferrous, where flash rust and stuff is a thing. Whole new ball game.
