    Default Tape Track

Applied metallic silver stripes on 65 Mustang. Applied blue metallic basecoat, 3 coats clear. Wet sanded 800 grit. Almost 3 weeks went by and then layed out stripes blue fine line and 3/4 masking tape.
Applied 4 light silver basecoats . Unmasked after approx. 20 minutes. They look sharp , crisp, straight.

I will clear in the morning. Only layed stripes once before. Question : some areas appear to have tape tracks on blue basecoat/ clear .
No residue on surface . Not sure if tape track is the right word, you can kind of see where tape was applied though.
My buddy owns a restoration shop and says they will disappear when clear is applied over them .
    Any advice appreciated, John.

In many cases the tape track will disappear when clear is applied but some metallic colors will still show the track after clearing. When we are spraying stripes we usually apply the stripe color in single stage or we clear it then we scuff it then mask and apply our main color and before we clear we unmask the stripe and clear everything. This eliminates tape tracks and usually eliminates the paint ridge between colors.

You can put a wet coat of clear over the stripe lines, let flash good then put three good coats on it all and then see what you have.
