    Default rust converter

I have a new power door for my 1980 camaro and it has some rust on the bottom edge, it is still solid but I will need to be treated, what is a good product that can have filler applied over it? Thanks........

If your gonna top coat it with base and clear, intially you should look into what len sells here. Picklex 20 is the best rust converter stuff.

If you have rust along the bottom edge the rust is probably coming through the metal. A quick and cheap fix is to drive the metal in slightly with a hammer then apply a moisture resistant filler over the problem but that type of repair usually won't last long before you start to see it again. The best method is to replace the metal along the door bottom with new metal.

If it's surface rust that doesn't penetrate the metal then it can be treated with Picklex, primed and filled with regular body filler.

Yes, you'll need to wire brush or blast to get the loose rust out of the pits then apply some Picklex and work it in with a scuff pad then wipe off the Picklex and let it dry. After the Picklex is dry scuff it with some sandpaper then apply your filler, block sand, prime and paint.

    Len,

When I purchased a used Jeep several years ago the front bumper was peeling paint and had a good case of rust and acne started in several large spots. Just for fun I gave those rusty spots a shot of PickelX 20 and a spray can of flat black.

I'm now replacing the bumper and looking at that old bumper the few spots I treated with PickelX 20 hadn't rusted any further while the rest of the bumper looks like Mars.

    Amazing stuff!
