Nason paint /clear

Getting ready to spray bc/cc shop says I dont need the hardner in base if im not going to stripe or grafix.He said with out hardner just mix it 2-1.Spraying 9800 clear at 4-1 using my plus gun should I use my 1.3 or 1.4 tip. Does the 1.2 tip ever get used for anything. I think clear says 45# air or should I just run gun in opperating range on regulator.

The 1.2 is used for thinner materials like lacquer or other low solids liquids. The air pressure at the gun's inlet regulator should be the pressure recommended by the gun's manufacturer not the paint manufacturer. The paint manufacturer has no idea what equipment you're using to spray their products.

I Use Nason on most of my repaints, DuPont calls for the hardener so USE IT. Your work and time is worth the $25 to $35 extra it cost for the pint to insure your entire job. Nason is thin so you will use a extra couple of coats, the clear is great in my opinion.

I use a 1.4 tip on my Devil. GTI HVLP

I just shot a truck cab and doors using Nason base and clear. I put two coats of color on and two coats of clear. I did do a spray out card first and verified that two coats of color on a sealed surface would cover well. I did use the hardener even though the supplier said it wasn't needed. Its supposed to help with fixes and adhesion so I was in. Biggest downfall of the hardener IMO is that you can't put mixed paint back in the can. Also Nason says its required versus other paints say its optional.

Now I like the Nason but need to run numbers against the chroma. Chroma is a 1:1 mix versus Nason is basically 2:1. So I need to check some pricing and compare spray able volume prices between the two.

I always run my topcoat gun at recommended gun pressure. I never worry about pressure recommendations from tech sheets.

you dont have to say it,anyone with any kind of knowledge of paints knows nason covers well but never matches and cromabase almost always matches and never covers well due to it being basically 50% binder/reducer...

instead of trying to be funny with your mutt at the bottom of your posts why dont you go paint something and get some hands on learning..

THERE IS A VERY GOOD REASON BODY SHOPS DONT ADVERTISE WE PROUDLY USE NASON,NOTHING IS WORSE THEN THEIR 2K PRIMER...

the problem with nason is the clear has no uv inhibitors and the base being low quality breaks down and lets the clear seperate resulting in clearcoat failure ,just think of it as a 12 month paintjob if its buffed and ad 6 months if you dont..

I don't paint everyday like a lot of you guys, but I have Nason Base and Nason clear on my daily driver and it has been there for at least 28 months. It is my daily driver so i'm not overly picky on it, but it still looks fine to me. No delamination no yellowing I can see. And this car sits outside a lot. It's only in the garage during winter. Not trying to start anything, just saying what I've experienced.

I agonized over what products to use and in the end went nason base and clears. I like the way they cover and shoot with atleast the couple colors I've shot. I'm sure other higher dollar stuff performs better. I have not been using any nason primers though.

Just because its expensive doesn't mean its good either I prefer tec base myself for solvent base but I mostly use vortex with speed clear ipc 21...

Last time I priced nason base clear, the base was a 3 part system. About 110 for a quart,basemaker and hardner. Chromabase was 95 qt and about 25 for basemaker. You are not saving much with nason. I like their clear, alot. Very good shine to it. Sprays smooth as well. I think it is 496-00.

I have use Dupont products for the past 38 years.

We use Nason Clears for cheaper jobs in my shop, and have been able to watch them for a couple years. No problems that I can see. Very nice shine, and easy buffing.

Nothing wrong here as I can see. Style, did you just have a bad day?

I have never try Nason base, but their 465 clear is really decent. And, it holes up well enough that I am not afraid to use it on my own car.

Can someone explain nason's mix ratio in idiot terms.8:1/2:4 to 8?? shop guy said just make it 2-1.How much diffrence will I notice between the 3.1 and the 4.1 tip.Should I just use 4.1 for the clear.
