    Default DIY paint curing?

    Hi members

I want to build some paint curing equipment on the cheaper side.

What curing device have you been using to fix, prime, paint and cure a panel on the same day?

I have been told that I can use the infra red lights that chicken farmers use for the chickens for heating or something.
Take a few of these lights and put it on a adjustable stand?

Any other ideas? What DIY curing system have you built and worked great?
What is the real name for automotive infra red beams? Or can I just any medium wave beam?

Also what are the power usage like on these type of things?
I am working outside at the moment, so no booth

I have been reading that the infra red lights are economic?

There are basically three types of curing lamps....

    1. Long wave like those used in bathrooms and chicken coops. This type takes longer to do the job and uses more electricity than other types.

    2. Medium wave lamps (pictured below) use a quartz tube and are fairly inexpensive. This type uses less power and cure paint more quickly than long wave lamps.

    3. Short wave lamps cure paint fastest and use the least amount of electricity but they cost more than the other types of lamps.

Most small shops use medium wave lamps.

Tip: When your lamp is not in use be sure to lower it close to the ground so that it's not top heavy. If the lamp is left in a high position a slight bump can cause it to fall and break the bulb. It took me a few bulbs before this fix dawned on me.

The quartz tubes (bulbs) for the lamps are available but I don't think that the entire head is sold separately.

Speed clear? Remember this side of the world is WAY behind with paint technology.
    Is it fast drying clear?

Len I will like to buy just the quartz tubes in medium wave and around 1500w each.
I can fabricate the heads. Do they need an electronic controller or just plug into wall power of the correct rating?

They are made to run on 110/120 volt electricity, no controller needed.
