It will depend on the clear you use and the hardness of the enamel. Some clear will probably cause lifting so try a small spot where it won't show to see how the enamel reacts. You should probably scuff the enamel first. I wouldn't recommend spraying urethane over enamel unless the enamel had a hardener added and even then it's a crap shoot.

Yes a hardener was used. the paint job came out great . maybe I should just wait and try buffing it.

Yes, try that first, you may find that it comes out real nice but be aware that enamel is quite soft so don't be too aggressive with the buffer.

Why do people always ask that question. Its just dumb. I understand not knowing, buy why would you? People I think recently are always trying to lengthen the life of cheap paint. Believe me, thats not the way to go. You probably would waste more product trying to cover crap than doin it right the first time.

Did not mean to offend you. Just saying a point. We all struggle with money. Try not to take it so personally. Alot of people ask that question though. Just look for a minute for yourself or others at common sense. If they sold it like that, wouldnt alot of shops offer that service?

This is also the first time using single stage paint normaly I would use two stage , but because its a snowmobile trailer
that will be dragged to Maine in the snow and crappy weather I used single stage. the paint came out great but I'll never use single stage again. just trying to conserve on the the cash . anyways thanks for your advice common cents$

I suggest you use a good urethane single stage. That is reasonalbly cheap and you won't need to clear it after that. It is just as durable as bc/cc and cheaper. If you choose a metallic or pearl, I wouldn't suggest sanding it, it will mess it up pretty bad. If you use a solid color you can color sand, but as I said, there is no need to clear a urethane single stage. Its not much more than acrylic enamel which is the cheaper single stage I think you are referring to. Even though acrylic enamel is pretty much junk, I still like it to mess around with since it is cheap.

Frostje thanks for the advice, if I paint my bike (my baby) I think i'd like to go with a two stage because it's
my pride and joy .I would like to have my pin striper do something on the base coat and then clear it any problems with doing that ? p.s didn't mean to get pissy' with you ,the wife is up my as* about the spending on paint .

No , no problems with pinstripe under paint. If you are using masking or hand painting to create it. I wouldnt use sticker types under that. It would lift the clear coat. I already had to get a seperate garage ,,,so home "people" wouldnt complain

frostje my guy does all free hand and he's good so's it sounds like bc/cc and what do you think about ppg deltron with top of the line clear? already priced it out and it seems do able ! by the way it will be a metallic rose red . so no sanding !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PPG deltron is good stuff. And if you got a doable price , go with it. You would not need to clear any single stage urethane. Believe me , its as resilient as bc/cc. Just remember, no sanding any pearl or metallic. If you go with bc/cc that would be best. I like 2 stage cause its easiest to repair. Your end result should look quite good if you follow the spec sheet for mixing and application.
