Thread: picklex, duraglass , sandblast

    Default picklex, duraglass , sandblast

51 chevy truck hood, sandblasted the hood, (still a few pitted spots of rut, but didnt want to get so aggressive it warped) welded the seam down the middle, which has a 1/2 wide by less than 1/8 " indention where trim was.
I need to apply some duraglass to this seam. so....should I use picklex over the hood first, then scuff and apply duraglass direct to metal, or should I use picklex, then epoxy , then duraglass over the epoxy followed by rage?

I probably wouldn't use the Picklex unless you have some rust that needs to be treated or you're going to leave it in bare metal for a week or more and need the Picklex to protect the metal. I would probably brush some epoxy primer on the seam, allow it to harden then scuff and apply your Duraglass.

the hood was sandblasted a week ago..and I am building the bed also, with lots of custom metal work and welding. so it will be bare a couple weeks,,you can see the light rust in pits in spots.

the hood looks pretty clean, but still has light rust in the pits, and heavier under the hood, so, I plan to use picklex, let dry then epoxy..the only issue really is on top at the seam...picklex the whole top, then sand and apply duraglass......or picklex, dry sand and then epoxy followed by duraglass,,

or even picklex the whole top then lightly sandblast the seam, and apply duraglass?

you can see the bed is all new metal, but needs covered with picklex to keep rust away and aid in welding..

Just scuff the Picklex well before applying epoxy and Duraglass on top and make sure that the epoxy does NOT contain any acid.

I had a little picklex left so I used it under the hood, it left a little white residue, but I scuffed it and applied por15 under the braces,,it sticks like glue...

plus ,,I just bought a gallon of picklex from you, ......lol...
