Thread: Looking for a certain tool?

Thumbs up Looking for a certain tool?

It's a long bar and chain. You can wrap the chain around the radiator support or whatever and hook it to the bar and pull. I thought it was called a come a long but when I search I only see a winch type thing with a big ratcheting handle. Thanks for the help!

Send a PM to MARTINSR, he was talking about this tool but I forget what it was called.

Well, now I know what the contraption Tech 69 posted on at least 3 welding boards is supposed to do.

Oddly it seems like it would be a bit more useful if the hook location was adjustable. Perhaps a pivot on the foot as well.

The one he copied has been around many decades and believe me, it works just fine. Forget the pivot foot, because you don't always go in one direction as my "Basics" showed. A good rubber cover on it so it doesn't slip is what you need. On the adjustable hooks, there are two, that and the chain with a hundred links and you have all the adjustment you could ever need.

The hook device on the original is much better than the ones Tech used in my opinion. But if you wanted to make one that will do the trick. But honestly, $138 from Len and it's on your door step, nothing to think about in my opinion.

Boy, No Peer presure here...... If Len wants he could make it so only paying customers can view this forum.

I haven't boughten anything from Len just yet, but I have tried to help where I can here and there. It seems though to some of you, You get any info here you shall buy ONLY FROM LEN being pushy like that is not going to make good buisness sence by guilt tripping people here that read these forums to buy from Len.

If Len buisness is relying on sales from this forum alone I can see why the push to buy from him is so great. but still no reason to be so pushy.

Len I think its great you have the forum and the way you link Items to the posts is great no need to search and its right there that service alone is a bonus and will sell more items than your members "helping" you sell items.

I am new to this site and I have seen this several times just never said anything. So this is what I think from an outsiders view and should be taken as such.

Brian, you neglect to factor in Weldor Rule #1. NEVER buy any tool for a buck when you can spend $100 making the same tool.

Then there is Rule 2. I'm not likely to use the tool the way it was intended, ergo modify to the max.
That same rule will require me to torch a brake pedal from something headed to scrap, install the pedal on a pivoting mount, and add a sleeve that locks the pivot straight when needed.

Then, if I employ a removable pin for the pivot I can swap the brake pedal for a chain anchored in position and employ the lever differently. A slip on adapter that indexes to the back of an electric drill and it becomes leverage for drilling beams & such.

Hooks, we don't buy no steenkeng hooks, ¼ x 1¼ strap stock, drill press for 2 quick holes, plasma between the holes and the perfect keyhole chain connector is made.

Might as well make it telescopic too for greater use potential.

4 or 5 years out with every potential use & adapter is fleshed out everything gets phosphated and a squirt from a rattle can of pink or lavender. NOBODY steals pink or lavender tools. I haven't lost a single cribbing block since I painted them pink.
