A question about clear coat if I could. I had to stop after the first full coat of clear and part of the second going on the car due to mosquitos dive bombing the darn hood and trunk when I went out of the booth to get another batch of clear mixed up and forgot to close the door up all the way.
I block sanded it with 600 to get rid of the bug tracks and some legs that I couldn't tweezer out. I didn't have any burn through's so it's still got decent clearcoat on it .

There's (wife want pearl on the car now that she's seen it, she thought the color would be like the 3 stage gm off-white color) not enough bling I guess.
1.Can I just shoot the pearl now using intercoat clear (I've already done a test panel to see how many coats I need to make it look ok (2)for the wife) and finish up with 2 coats more of regular clear?
    or am I
    2. best blocking all over again and going back to base and then intercoat clear back to back? then clear. I'm worried about getting to many mil's on that car and having it easy to chip.
I'm using nason paints if that makes a difference
With the products that I use the pearl is just another base coat, so if your products are similar to mine you should be able to spray the pearl coat Nason on top of the clear and you should be ok.

It's always best to have less film build but it also is A LOT more work to sand it down and start over so it's your call.

ahh looks like I've got a lot of sanding to do. I really don't want it to be too thick, since the cars going to be a driver for me and I know I'm going to get chips in it any way . I don't need it too make it easier to chip.

ahhhyup just got done wet sanding with 800 on the back passenger quarter, whew this is gonna take a while. I'm going over the whole car with 800 then 1000 to make sure everything is smooth and DULL then I'll shoot the pearl and reclear. I was not happy worrying about the mil thickness if I didn't sand it down. just rolled it outside to look at it and check progress (trying not to cut through the clear.)
    here's how it looks now

this back quarter is done upt to 800 grit

I haven't even started on the trunk yet but I did try out my led prototype.

just a light sand to see what it's going to need , yup 800 to flatten it , I shouldn't have waited 3 weeks but the family had other ideas (vacation time)

looks like both front fenders will need to be cut with 800 also.. dang lots of wetsanding

ahh well it'll sure be smooth when I'm done

hmm I'm wondering if I can use 600then 800 and 1000 grit and tape the edges to make things go faster ??? any ideas about that? or ??

You could always use some 3M Trizact on a DA, it would make the sanding go a lot faster.

The 3/32" AirVantage does an excellent job and can be used after the painting to level the paint for buffing.

I know you were asking about Tincups but here's mine!
here's some shots of the dart after 2 years on not having suspension. I'm going to lower it back down 3 inches since it sit's WAYYYYYYYY to high for me though. probably 3 inches or so.

I do have an issue with the pearl though, I found a light spot near the door that I need to fix. can I just mix some pearl in the clear and using a small detail gun blow/mist it in to match the surrounding area and then re-clear the whole quarter? I really don't want to sand that baby down again to base and re-do it again. once was enough dang thing took forever to get back to base the first time.
I figure 1 bad spot out of all the car isn't to bad but I sure do notice the color difference and want to fix it
    here's the pic's

Thanks guy's, the paint came out good, but there is some mottling in the metallic. Outside it looks great, under fluorescent lights you can see it.
