    Default solvent pop or contamination

    Hi Guys,

Painted my sons truck (base/clear) about a month and a half ago and noticed on both fenders tiny bubbles showing up. Does solvent popping happen right away or during curing process? I'm going to block out and repaint this weekend and would like to know what went wrong so I can corect process. Should I just block down to where its flat or do i need to go beyond color?

    Thanks

Probably solvent pop. Coats are put on too quickly and the previous coat cant "gass off", so they slowly come out as it cures.

With the products that I use I'll get solvent pop within a few hours of the paint application if I apply too much too fast without allowing enough time between coats for the solvent to escape. However, with products that dry/harden more slowly, solvent pop could take longer to appear. On the effected panels I would sand the surface until the bubbles are gone then apply another coat or two of color then reclear.

At the time of your original work, did you do any rust repair in that area? Could there be rust on the other side of that panel that has worked its way through?

No rust repairs done on either fenders. I did not take it to bare metal. I DA with 180, primed, blocked, seal, then base and clear.

I used Omni Base and Euro 4 to 1 clear. Would solvent pop show up even after been painted that long?

    Thanks

Different product perform differently and I've never used those products however my guess would be "no" I don't think it would pop after that length of time. If you press your thumb against the surface will you still leave a finger print?

no paint not soft, seems like its cured but something going on. Problem spot is only on both front fenders just above the wheel wells.
