Default Still cant beat that sure finish

    Gentlemen:

Finally finished my latest project....Picked up a 97 buick with bad paint...381 dollars worth of material later its better than showroom....I think i'm going back to colorsanding by hand...ended up with some finishfilm rat tails.....(about 8 to 10 total) on different parts of the car). Tried different things, but still ended up with them.....Robert, your "sure finish" is still making the buffing job easy....Its just about time to order some more....

    Default Nice job Barry!

What kind of paint did you use?

If you find the Finishing Film is generating some scratches it could be from contaminants on the surface. Wet sanding by hand is an option but it sure takes a lot longer and is a LOT more work. An easier faster method is, after using the Finishing Film, switch to Mirka Abralon or 3Ms Trizact to finish the sanding and help remove light surface scratches before polishing with Sure Finish.

    Len:

I used dupont chroma with nason clearcoat. I actually used the 3000 trizact and 4000 abralon both after the 1500 finishfilm on an airvantage. The last couple paint jobs i've done have all ended up with rat tails no matter how careful/clean i am about colorsanding. I love the speed of finishfilm....but really get disgusted with the rat tails. I have no clue as to where the contamination is coming from.

We do a lot of sanding with Finishing Film and not all the time with Abralon or Trizact and we rarely have scratches in the finish after we start polishing. I would think that it's not the Finishing Film that's the problem but maybe dirt in the surface or maybe you're trying to use it after it loads up but I don't think that loaded FF would generate pig tails. Maybe Robert could shed some light on this if he's around to read it.

Thats my thoughts....I'm painting well enough now to where i can control the orange peel to a degree. I'm not colorsanding for the peel, i'm sanding for the dust nibs and small grains of dirt. My thinking was, the finishfilm would sand the dirt particle down and dissolve it...but came to the conclussion thats probably where the tail is coming from. Next paint job i do, i'll hand sand down the dirt particle in the clear, then run over the rest with finishfilm. I wipe the surface constantly to keep the clearcoat dust off, along with wiping down the film so theres not alot of buildup. When garage painting, dirt/dust particles are still the hardest thing to control...I only do one or two vehicles a year so its not real cost effect for me to have a dedicated spray booth. After 5 years of playing with paint, I'm just having fun and still looking to do the perfect paint job.

from here!!! Of course the color and camera helped a lot. If the car was white it would not show off like the color you have. Really nice job. Post more pics of other projects. I like seeing other people work. Good job again. Henry
