    Default Mini Gun Recommendation

Hey Len. I'm in the market for a mini gun and I've narrowed it down to two on your site, the Sharpe FX1000 or the DeVilbiss Starting line. Of those two, which one is smaller and more maneuverable in tight spaces? Which one is easier to clean and maintain? Which one has a more controlled spray pattern?

    Thanks

    Curt

The best is the SRIPro but for the money the ASTRO Mini-Gun is the best by far. They have a new model that superceedes the 4020 called the EUROHVT1 that is dynamite. Very nearly as good as the SATA miniJet for about $100. In the cheap minigun race this is clearly the winner.

I have no experience with the Astro that Dennis mentioned but they are in stock at the warehouse and cost $129.50.
I've gotten good feedback on the Sharpe FX1000 but haven't personally used it or the Startingline gun.
I had a Startingline come in that we shipped overseas and I inspected it before it left and it looked like it was built quite well for the price but I never used one.

I have a SATA mini jet 4. And I have also used a Starting Line mini and the Starting line gun did spray nice and I liked it, for the price. I havent used any of the other guns.

I did a quick search and found it says that the Astro Gun only has the 1.0 needle/cap setup. I thought I read somewhere that the newer Astro comes with a 1.2 and 1.3. So if not would not a 1.0 kinda limit what paint products you could spray? Also what is the cfm requirement for the Astro?

I've had several small guns and all of them had a 1.0 tip. I now have a SRi Pro with a 1.0 and 1.2 but I've never used the 1.2. Smaller guns are more forgiving than larger guns when it comes to tip size.

Would the Astro EUROHVT with a 1.2 tip be a good match for a mini primer gun to use in conbination with the SRI Pro? Does Devilbiss make DeKups adopter to fit the Astro EUROHVT?

That would probably make a decent little primer gun. I don't know about the DeKup adapter, DeVilbiss doesn't specifically designate one of their adapters for that gun but if it's a standard thread then one of the adapters may fit. It may take some experimentation to find the right adapter.

I have used the Startingline Mini quite a bit. Its been a go to gun for me for small personal projects and for what it is, its decent. Mine has an odd shaped C pattern in the fan that I've wasted hours of time on trying to adjust out and it just won't budge. Knowing how it going to spray for me ahead of time allows me to compensate and turn out a nice finish with it. Mine has the 1.0 needle and its sprayed it all with little to no difficulty however, I wouldn't be comfortable painting anything larger than a fender with it.. That odd pattern in the fan is run waiting to happen for me. I will be going to an SRi Pro just as soon as possible. Len has a great system listed in the store for the SRi Pro and it took me all of about 2 seconds to decide thats the system I'll be going with. The price is unbeatable too. I priced this set up locally and even with shipping costs, I can put another 45.00 back in my wallet buying it here.

If it wasn't for this Site and the deals Len puts together.. I would not have the tools or the skills needed to do what I love. Make things look amazing.. From a mailbox to car to a show piece. This is the place to learn how to do right.

The new Astro Mini Gun is available with either the 1.0 or the 1.2 I have the 1.0. The 1.2 will work with primer but you will need to reduce the primer somewhat. It has about a six inch fan which I think is fine. I have a SATA MiniJet 2 and MiniJet 4 both with Smart Repair nozzle kits in various sizes (1.0, 1.2 and 1.4) and this Astro will shoot clear just as well as my SATA's. I don't know of a better recommendation than that.

CFM requirements are about 5-7. I don't have the spec on this but my experience with the gun indicates that this is about right.

The fluid thread tip on the Astro EUROHVT1 is M11*P 1.5. Devilbiss does not have an adapotor that will allow use of the Dekups system to the Astro HVT1. This is based on my conversation with technical service at Devilbiss, but I have an inquiry out to the jury with Astro. Devilbiss does have an adopter with M11 1.0.

Hey guys I was just curious, is there any reason a full size gun couldnt be used just as well as a mini gun if the space wasnt the issue? I mean dial the fan to 6" set the air to match and dial back material flow. Seems like it would pretty much exactly the same. Am I missing something here?
