Thread: How much paint?

    Default How much paint?

I am going to paint our 65 GMC longbed in about 3 weeks and I am starting to question if I have enough color and clear. It's my first full body paint job...scary!

I have a gallon of PPG DBC2000 that is mixed 1 to 1 (so that is 2 gallons). I have a gallon of PPG DCU2002 that is mixed 4 to 1 to 1 (so that is about 1.5 gallons).

The jams and firewall are already painted. I need to paint the entire perimeter of the truck, inside bed walls , and under hood.

So, you experienced paint guys...is that enough to shoot 3 base coats and 3 clears with HVLP gun?

PPG guys said yes, but it would be bad news if I ran out.

    Thanks!

It depends on how well the paint covers and how well the gun transfers material to the surface but it sounds like you'll have more than enough material.

It will take about 2 quarts to shoot the jambs, roof and inside the bed which is what I normally shoot first. I then mask off and cover those areas and spray the remainder of the truck. Doing that you don't need to climb over any wet surfaces to paint the rest of the truck but you will have two painting sessions and additional masking.
