    Default Spray gun lube

I have a service bulletin from Devilbiss that mentions using glycerin as
a lubricant for moving parts. I'm not trying to reduce the sales of gun
lube on this site, just asking if anybody uses glycerin.

I've never used glycerin but I can tell you that those little bottles of DeVilbiss spray gun lube come in a container that is easy to use, it works well, it's inexpensive and I've had a bottle I use every day and it's about half gone after two years. I usually use it on the needles and air pins so that they continue to work smoothly and I now use it on the groves in my DeKup adaptera so that the cups turn on and off easily.

I ordered a bottle of this lube from Len a good two years ago,I'm still good to go for another two years.I spray at two shops,so you know I'm using it often.

Did the service bulletin say to use glycerin instead of gun lube? I mean was that the reason for the bulletin?

I do not recall where I picked up this information. But I do remember reading about
using glycerin, but I can't find that in any Devilbiss service bulletin I have. Every
service bulleting says to use SSL-10.

Default Binks ( Dried out packing) Gun lube

I got out some info that I had from a Binks 7 in the trouble shooting area it said that dried out packing can be corrected by backing up the knurled nut and place two drops of light machine oil on the packing and replace the knurled nut and tighten.

That would probably be ok on old guns with fiber bushings in areas that don't see paint like on the air valve but it could sure raise hell with newer guns with Teflon bushings or plastic seals in areas where paint can come in contact with the oil.

Sata also has a silicon free grease tube. If you examine a factory
new Sata gun they grease several parts at the factory. Part No.
    is #48173.

At one time Sata made two lubricants (grease and oil) and recommended both for different applications. I don't know if they still make two or not but I'll bet that whatever they make it costs a lot more than other lubricants for spray guns.
