68 mustang rust repair question

I took my vinyl top odd and am going to replace it on my 68 mustang coupe. There are a couple bad spots around the back glass that is rusted through about the size of a pencil eraser. I have bondo and some fiberglass kit.Can I just put some mesh and fiberglass on the holes and sand it down? or should I bondo them?

Should I use something like that in a paste or can I use my fiberglass kit with the mesh sheets.Put a piece of mesh over the hole and can also level low spots from rust close to the hole with the resin?
