    Default New spray gun leaking

I just purchaced the devilbiss finish line 3. Tonight I was going to run some solivent through it to clean out any protective coatings. When I filled the cup with solivent it started leaking slightly around the tip and/ or trigger area.
Not sure if there is something else I need to do or if anyone has had a similar problem, and could suggest a quick fix. I have tripple cheched the directions with no luck.

    Thanks

    Default tip loose?

remove the aircap and fluid needle...try to SNUG the tip. Is there a gasket that goes underneath? Is there a burr on the fluid needle? is the spring under the adjustment nut?
    just suggestions....

Remove the "air cap" which is the outer cap where the paint comes out then check to see if the fluid tip is tight. The fluid tip is the part right under the air cap where the paint comes out.

Check it again and if it still leaks check the small nut in front of the trigger where the needle goes to the front of the gun.

dont tighten that one (packing nut) too tight or the needle wont move freely and you will create other problems. That is also a lube point for spray gun lube

Thanks, it was the small nut on the inside by the trigger Len suggested. But after my first coat of primer I had another problem.
Primer started dripping out the tip. When the trigger was pulled it sprayed good, but when I let off the primer would just start dripping directly out of the tip.
The primer also came out spattery, not very smooth.
I think I need some more gun training. I bought the spray painting 101, but is there a DVD that just goes over guns and proper adjustments?

If the gun leaks when the trigger is released it means that the needle isn't returning all the way back to the tip. You probably tightened the needle packing too much OR you may need to lubricate the needle with a drop or two of gun lube after cleaning the gun. See the gun cleaning video posted in the General Discussion forum, it shows the lubrication.

I over tightened the nut. Gun is working great now. Thanks for the help.
