Default How much should a booth rental cost?

There is a new biz that has opened up in out town--a mechanic rental shop. They have a HUGE building that has bays for rent by the hour. They have some lifts and tire machine and some special tools. The idea is that you would go to this shop for a DIY project. They are planning to increase the amount of equpment they have to include a paintbooth. My question is--this is not a body shop--this is a booth that is available for the general public to come in and rent---it has a fire suppression but does not have a make up heater. How much should it cost to rent this thing. We live in a fairly large city and I have tons of friends that "talk" that they would try some painting if they had a place to do it.

    Ok---now for the wrinkle.

I work for a school that has just bought a brand new semi-downdraft booth---
we had it installed and have NEVER painted in it. Due to a very long and drawn out political issue internal to the school--the booth HAS to go. We will never be able to paint in it where it is.

Soooooo.... My thinking is a strategic alliance with this rental place to find our booth a new home--- they get a free paint booth to rent out to the public----- and we get a maintained booth to use whenever we need one. They would have to pay the installation costs (power--roof perferation---etc. and keep the booth clean and have new filters.

My thinking is that they would be crazy to not jump at this deal. We would most likely only need the booth 2-3 days a month. I know that in order for this deal to be realistic we would need to firm up EXACTLY how much booth time we get--and how much they get to rent to customers.

I know this is a bit like renting houses---can a poor tenant really do any damage to things??
And how many hours are in a new booth before it needs some repairs--fan--lights etc...

They have TONS of space--I mean a lot--
What I am wondering is---am i driving a hard enough bargain? When our school bought the booth it was so we can have a place to paint--- as long as we get that---I think we are happy.

But I dont want to leave too much on the table---

Any thought at all would be welcomed
    Thanks

My guess is that they have you sign a release so that any injuries are on you and not them.

There are two spray booth rentals offered in my area on Craigslist. One is $75 per day, the other is $150. The less expensive one is offered by a fellow who also conducts painting and prep short courses. As part of the painting course, an auto paint store is toured and the student receives a discount on supplies for his/her project.

I would be willing to bet that wouldn't fly with the air quality people! Around here it is so insane I can't imagine this working other than an operating booth renting out for a day under the table.

You're right, especially under the new EPA rules that are going to mandate training for painters and using the proper spray guns. However these painters are probably exempt under the new rules because they aren't in the business of spraying cars for money.

I rented a super nice double wide booth with heat for $400 for two days. It was worth it for both of us. I got a top of the line booth and they had a slave who cleaned it to perfection before I used it. It was a PITA having a bunch of "experts" looking at our business all day Saturday.
