Best way to remove ALL rust?

Is having the body dipped the only way? Im mostly concerned with removing the rust on the back sides of panels, seams and in the areas the you just can't get to with blasting. Will dipping hurt the cowl tags on GM cars?
    Thanks

There are several methods for rust/paint removal: soda blasting and media blasting are the best methods...only problem with media blasting is that it may or may not warp the metal...soda blasting is good on the environment and yourself when you are doing it...of course always think safety by using goggles, respirator, gloves, etc....you can also strip the paint by hand using chemical stripper (aircraft stripper is the best just time consuming)....these are the other methods just depends on how much you want to spend or if you want to do it yourself or professionally pay someone....however it is essential in my opinion in finding areas of the car that may be hiding rust damage or bondo/accidents, etc...once the body is blasted then you can cut out the rust and put in replacement metal

Thanks falcon but I'm more concerned with removing rust from the places that blasting can't get too.

Stripping the outside paint and bodo and some rust is usually straight forward like you mentioned with blasting or chemical stripping.

Heres the deal...I came across a 57 T-Bird that has been sitting since 72 and has some odd rust. Water got inside the trunk so the lower quarters are shot. That's not the problem, the problem is that the inside of the car has been humid for so long that some areas where there is internal bracing is rusting and coming though from the INSIDE. Blasting will not get at this rust so I was thinking that dipping would be the way to go. I can post pics tomorrow so that you can see what I mean.

Dipping is very thorough. It is expensive and will eat everything not Ferrous metal. All dum dum, aluminum, etc. I remove all Tags and such before sending anything out. It will come back sparkling clean. However, it could come with a lots more Metal gone than you would have envisioned. A lot of sound looking Metal may indeed be nothing more than solid feeling Rust.

Another thing to be aware of is that not all Dippers are created equal. We are very lucky here in SW Ohio to have Jimmy Taylor and American Metal Cleaning. They do excellent Work and always completely neutralize the Metal of any harmful Residue.

Do some Legwork in your area before with this.

55 What is the ball park price for say a 60's/70's mid size care to get professionally done? I have done the stripping myself which is messy and time consuming. Just wondering the general price range to get it soda blasted or dipped by a reputable professional.

I'm not a fan of soda blasting but plastic media blasting costs about $700 to $1000 for the exterior.

Just curious... what's the advantage of blasting the outside of the car? I guess it's easier than chemical stripping or stripping with an abrasive disk but is the end result really any better? For that kind of money I'd strip it myself the old fashion way and use the money for something else....like for repairing that little rust bubble that formed a year or so down the road because it was forming on the inside where mechanical means couldn't reach it.

Here, about 3k+. Your area will be different as Labor cost, energy, and Regulations differ from area to area.

baking soda blasting will NOT remove rust way too fine for that will remove paint not bondo for most part if its thick.

total body dips are usually done with a vary corresive acid OR a acid base.. One removes rust and all coatings on outside of car the other wont remove rust and coastings but removes everything else.

If you have a car dipped to remove all rust it has to be followed immediatly but a dip in a tank for zinc galvenizing. Havent seen a car done like this yet.

Baking soda blasting cars have to be completely striped and throughly cleaned after as soda and water create a corrosive that likes to ruin anything.

for this project you have two choices get it dipped and recoated or cut weld and use rust killers all over.
