You can compensate to a point for inadequate air by using the stop-start-start method. Basically, pause and wait for the compressor to catch up. It's not always ideal.
Sorry if I sounded like I was flaming on anyone, but all I need is some advice, like above, that doesn't cost me a fortune because.........

    A. I am not, nor have been, nor will be a pro like you guys. This is for fun.

    B. I only want to get some paint on my Jeep and the most I can possibly paint at once is about 20 square feet of surface because it comes apart.

    C. From what I've read here in THIS thread, there are guns to shoot with a 30 gallon compressor. I just don't need one that will cost $250 and up. I need a gun for occasional light duty. If there is such an animal, let me know. I don't want to just throw money away on $50 piece o'crap, but $100 or $125 is fine.

LEN _ I am taking your advice and going with a one stage, solid color paint and will do a clear coat over it. I understand what you said about cycling the compressor and will practice on an old trailer to get the timing down. I'll give spraying the trailer a shot before hooking up an auxiliary volume storage tank. I have a tall CO2 tank that's listed at 280 psi and could rig this up if neccesary.

88GT _ I bet the Mustang looks hot! I love the look of the pearls, but this is a Jeep and my first paint job, so this idea has been shelved in my brain for now. If this turns out nice, then next summer maybe I'll get a little funky with it.

Anyways, I'd still like a recommendation or 2 for a decent gun for not a whole lotta money that will spray a solid color on an area the size of a hood. I'd appreciate any guidance you guys can throw my way.

Gotta get going.......I just heard the Rochester the Butler answering the door. I have a couple Playboy Bunnies coming over to bang me and a fat ugly buddy in the shallow end of the heated indoor pool so I need to start chilling the Dom and get the chef to whip up some waterproof appetizers.

    Thanks Gentlemen!

There are a couple of decent guns in your price range. I usually recommend the Finishline 3 as the lowest price gun that performs decently but there are lower priced guns in the DeVilbiss line that are ok. If you're going to apply both primer and top coat with the same gun then the Finishline 3 kit that comes with three fluid tips is a good choice. If you want a lower priced gun then the DeVilbiss Startingline gun is a decent choice. The Astro EVO is a decent gun that doesn't use a lot of air and the cost is very reasonable.

The Astro evo will do what you want just fine . I have 2 of them and they work well for what they cost and don't need a lot of air . Of course get the 1.4 tip . Also buy it from len as parts can be rather hard to come by and he will be able to get them . But if you don't drop it and keep it clean you wont need any .

    Mooch
