Default Dark Green Metallic and Hiding

Hey guys need your help once again, Im doing a repair job on a box side spraying an omni dark green metallic and am having a hard time with hiding, i am on coat number eight and have tried every thing from 50- 75 - and 100 percent reduced with 75 percent overlab and still no benifits in hiding:confused: , sparying with a sata 3000 RP 1.3 tip around 27 psi, I know green's can and yellow's can need a few extra coats but eight and still need more, I feel pretty confindent in my painting skills and gun setup that i could leave my self out of the equation but who knows i could be doing something wrong but i think its the paint, could use some input! Thanks for any advice you can give - Matt kopsi

I'm sure it is just the paint, never used omni base but have heard it is very thin.Try reducing 50% and see if that helps, might have been better to use a dark gray sealer or a tinted green sealer to help coverage. After you have coverage let it sit for at least and hour 8 or more coats will leave the risk of solvent pop in your clear.Maybe lower your pressure so it will go on a little thicker until you get coverage, then make adjustments for your blend.HTH

Sprayed alot of omni and have never gone over 3 coats to acheive metalic layout and color hiding, when reduced to 50 percent the paint will not atomize and just adds texture with no benifit in hidding. i will wait a little longer before clearing but feel i might be redoing this job !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe your jobber reduced it for you, that might explain why it was thinner than normal I have seen this happen before.Glad it worked out for you.

I guess thin is a bad word, i think TRANSPARENT would be a better fit. called the paint supllier and he seemed to be puzzeled and asked me to bring in the remaining for him to test.

I feel your pain. I've been spraying Glasurit almost exclusively for years and had to purchase some DuPont Chromabase to do a job and found out (the hard way) just how poorly it covered. I now shoot a test panel when applying any materials that I'm not familiar with. It's a lot easier doing some testing than having to spray the entire job again.

Ive been using Omni for awhile and the green is notorious for being too tranparent.Same with some of the maroons.I think it is just that line of paint.
Inexpensive but need more to cover.
