Thread: 1st Gen S10 door actuator rivets

Default 1st Gen S10 window regulator rivets

Has anyone replaced doors on a Gen 1 S10 and if so, have you switched over the window regulators that are riveted on? I know some guys reinstall with nuts & bolts but I'd like to use rivets, as the factory installed. Does anyone know the size and type rivets, and what kind of rivet gun? Is this something that can be rented?

    Bump..
Still looking for the answer. I have to switch over door guts to new (used) shells. The window actuators are attached with rivets, not uncommon, I guess. At any rate, I'm thinking reattaching them with rivets is probably the way to go.

Any thoughts on this, pro or con? What is normally done in a shop, or at the dealer? If rivets are the norm, what size rivet gun do I need? How much does it cost, and can it be rented?

All the rivets I've seen for this type of work are the large ones that use this type of gun. This one costs $145 at this time.

As for the rivets you would need to check with W & E or some other supplier of fasteners unless you can take a rivet to a supplier in your area to get a match. In most cases it doesn't need to be a perfect match as long as it will do the job.

Check with a place that repairs mobile homes or Greyhound type buses. They use larger rivets. They could possibly do the riveting for you.

NAPA sells the rivits, pretty sure I've also seen them at hardware stores where they have a big pic a nut assortment.
I've got a gun made by the Tool-Aid co that I've used commercialy for the last 10 years, still works fine. I've seen the same gun in tool truck flyers for $50 or so.

you could get an air riveter at HF for that. It will take care of all sizes. Some ford handles have those huge rivets too.
