New guy need advise

Ok so heres the deal,im doing a show car for a freind of a freind .I compleated all the body work and painted the whole car except the bumpers and wing because I had them off the car.I ordered the paint from my local paint supplier and gave them the paint code.I ran outta paint befor I could spray the bumpers and wing so I bought more and resprayed last nite,wrong color?turns out the color I painted the entire car with is wrong its like 3 shades darker .sO IM SCREWED AND HAVE TO RE shoot the entire thing ,what should I expect the autobody supplier to do for me ,its obviously there fault you give them a paint code they should mix the color it is .Bolth cans have the same paint code but there definitly different .
Not sure if I should demand they pay for my time or what.

ps I allredy tryed passing the color off on the customer and they noticed it right away.

well if the paint place mixed it right it should match atlease close. What color is it? Solid color or metallic?? Do you know how to tint? can you find somone that could? If the customer already seen it being 3 shades off it will now harder to pass the color off even being one shade off.

I would have the paint supplier mix some paint to match the wrong color so that the bumpers and wing will match the car.

This is one of the reasons I ALWAYS buy more paint than I need. I don't want to have match problems is I need more paint for ANY reason.

yea thanks its a metalic silver ,I sprayed with the same pressure at the same distance using the same pattern bolth times ,the chance he wasent going to notice was slim .This is like a goldish platnium ,I knew it was a metilic silver type color so I diddnt think nothing of it while spraying the car.They got a bunch of crack heads workin in there and im friggin pissed,I spend like 2 or 3 gs a month there ,I have bolth cans with two diffrent color paints inside its noticable side by side.I cant help but feel like there responsable.

I agree but now it's time to plan a strategy that isn't going to cost you more than the car's owner. I'd complain pretty loud so that you get a good mix the next time then paint the parts that don't match.

I remember reading somewhere on the net that you should buy more paint than what you need and mix the cans together to ensure color matching. This way your covered if there's touch ups or spot repairs to make.

well they gave me all my materials to do the car over after argueing with me t for a few min,they refused to admit they sold me that paint till i made them look it up.I was not happy with the attitude I got so will be using a diffrent store from now on.

regardless of whatever color a car is (no not kamelion or 3 stage pearls) they can use a spectrum analyzer and match it pretty damn ("as much as i hate my local dupont store they have one")close then from there spray a test panel then check it against the car in the sun if its good then go for it if not take it back show them the car and the test panel and let them adjust it then try again until they get it right..

I have to admit if my store screws up they always give me the paint to redo, but it never covers my time. If I know I am running out of paint, I will save what I have left and buy more. The when I finish spraying I use the new paint and then on the last coat I use the originally purchased paint to top it off. My way of keeping it close.

Glad you got the materials from your suppliers some will not do it.
