Anyone ever used paint from these guys? I did and it seems very strange and I couldnt get it to go on smooth at all. When I put thinner in my gun to clean it the paint left in there just clumped up. Really weird stuff, now I'm resanding and i'll be getting my paint from NAPA this time.....:mad:

What type of paint did you purchase? It sounds like problems you would have with old enamel.

Also it should be pointed out that if you thinned out the paint that didn't spray well with "paint thinner" from a hardware store then what you actually used was mineral spirits or some very similar chemical. If you try and mix that into lacquer or acrylic enamel or urethane paint it WILL clump up and take on a consistency of watered down cottage cheese and it will plug a spray gun up eventually. To clean a spray gun you need automotive grade lacquer thinner NOT paint thinner from a hardware store.

Ok, thanks, that's good to know. I did use "paint thinner" from an auto parts store, I'll get laquer thinner next time. The paint was said to be acrylic urethane. When it showed up the can said urethane enamel. It was mixed 8:2:1 with the reducer and the activator that came with it. Also, the leftover paint in the mixing cup never got hard it just turned into rubbery type stuff. I literally took a chunk and bounced it off the floor like a bouncy ball. I sent an e-mail to the place complaining about the paint+the color was supposed to be midnight blue and it's like a medium blue, very ugly color.

That is pretty bad when you buy the cheapest stuff you can find then complain that it wasnt that good. What do you expect? Cheap and good? Not gonna happen.

It is Enamel if it is single stage
They do have Urethane But it is base coat clear coat

Sounds like the Wrong Thinner was used

I have used thier enamel and had no problems with it going on but the shine does not last more than a year or So.

Well, I figured cheap paint would be just fine for my old 4 wheelin' truck, so that's the premise for buying cheap paint.....But.....It was sooo bad that it's not even good enough for an old work truck......For $90, you would think it would be good enough for that application.......How much should I expect to spend on some DECENT paint? I was going to get the paint from NAPA is their Cross/Fire line of paint seem like it would be up to the job????

I don't think he's looking for sympathy, just a little advice. Let's cut him a little slack.

I can't comment on the Napa Crossfire, never used it. But you should price out the PPG and Dupont value lines, Omni and Nason respictively. A gallon of clear with activator (5 qts ready to spray) in the Nason line sells for ~$110. Price out their single stage urethane. These are a reasonable quality product at an affordable price. I use Omni epoxy and urethane primers and quite like them and the Nason clear is very good. Others have said the Omni clears are quite good as well.

As you've discovered, the no name economy paints are a crapshoot. The time you put into the prep warrants at least a decent product.

Yes Cross fire will be a big step up from the crap you used. I would probably if you have time sand off the stuff you already sprayed. If not sand it with some 600 grit wet and spray the new stuff over it.

I can still get a gallon of Sherwin Williams econo clear for 60 bucks. Been on my Honda for over 6 yrs in the sun. Still shines. Never waxed.....sorry just realized how old this thread is...LOL!!
