    Default 78 Cougar XR7

    Something different... a 1978 Cougar XR7. Right now it's got a 523" (stroked 460), C6 and 3.5:1 9" rear.

Car when I got it, 4 years ago.

Here's where I am now with it..

The trunk had a small hole in the corner, and the hood had massive holes along the front edge. I found an NOS hood for $50, so I grabbed that.

The car had very minor rust, so I cut out the two bad spots and replaced them with new metal..
I applied body filler to those sections. I straightened a few of the door dings and creases to the best of my ability and I used some two part body glaze on them. The worst part was trim holes, and I made a mess filling them. I also filled the antenna hole and the mirror mounting holes (I am going to use power mirrors from a Fox body Mustang convertible, they look nice, fit the contour of the door, and have a larger viewing area than the OEM)

My big mistake so far I suppose was I applied Picklex20 all over the car, the bare metal spots that have been sitting..and I did the body work before I applied epoxy.. Depending on the school of thought I screwed up. Looks like I get to DA the car.. again, to remove all the Picklex20.

    Default i like it

I'm a fan of big 70's Ford/Mercurys. I catch a lot of crap for it, but I like 'em. They are some of the first modern cars that were comfortable to drive. I own a '73 Mustang. I drove one in high school which I regrettably sold and acquired another the one I have now to restore. My sis had a 70's Grand Marquis that I used to borrow just for something different to cruise. I've always liked the 70's Cougars as well. Anywho, I think it's a cool car and look forward to seeing more updates.
