    Default Single Stage Trend?

In the vast research I've done in preparing to paint my car, I thought I was sold on base/clear application. Now, I'm seeing a trend in high-end project cars getting single stage paint. What's the rational? Historical accuracy? If money is no constraint, why go single stage, given the benefits of base/clear technology?

I think you hit the nail on the head with "historical accuracy" or at least that would be the reason I would (and do) use. Single stage has a one dimensional look the brings back memories of when the world was a simpler place When I use Glasurit 22 Line single stage color I apply one or two coats for coverage then add about 25% clear to the mix to attain better durability (mainly UV resistance) with the remaining two coats and still maintain that one dimensional look.
