MP 182 over bare metal?
Hey guys, question for ya's
Im repairing nicks, scratchs, small dings and such on my work van in prep for new paint. The area I am working on now is the back doulble doors. I planned to do a side at a time because of space in my shop and figured it would be easier for me.
Its a 98 G3500 van.
I have sanded down dings/scratchs and small dents to bare metal so I can make sure any rust started from scratchs all the way thru to metal are cleaned off. I then used standard Rage over anything larger, that glaze/putty couldnt handle. I then skim coated with Evercoat Poly Flex (I had it, so used it) over the Rage and filled all the grind thru spots and small dings.
In the process of block sanding I have small areas of bare metal. I was hoping to shoot it with MP 182 urethane surfacer. Will this be ok over the bare metal areas? I plan to seal everything with MP 170 epoxy or Transtar epoxy before top coat. I know for the best job I should seal all the filler and bare metal with epoxy, but will the 182 be ok? Its just a work van.
thanks, sorry for the book version.

Chas, you should be good to go. I regularly spray relatively small areas of bare metal with the 2K high fill primer and never had a problem.

Thanks Phil! Just what I wanted to hear
Anyone else have experience with this? I want to get an early start on this in the morning. I think I am going to go ahead and with the 182. But will check back here first.

My first car I ever painted I stripped down to metal and then put omni urethane surfacer directly over that and started blocking:o . At the time, I had no idea about epoxy or etch primer. I still drive that car daily and so far no signs of rust after almost 7 years
. So I wouldn't worry a whole lot about those small spots, like Phil said.
