Default Use a 50/50 mixture of alcohol and water?

I keep hearing to use a 50/50 mixture of alcohol and water to clean between compounds and polishes. Is that regular drug store type rubbing alcohol or?

I don't know about for cleaning up polishing, but I use straight Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol as a solvent/cleaner quite a bit. It evaporates really fast (if that's what you want) and leaves no residue. It's really not the greatest solvent, but I can get it in bulk pretty cheap-like $5-6 a gallon. Of course, that was a year ago, probably lots more now. Best part is it must be pretty safe-they use it in hospitals and you can use it topically (for rubbing?). I use it almost exclusively in my attached garage, because my wife is super-sensitive to odors & solvents.

I use Wizards Finish Cut...with their wipe down spray..cleans up polish great, and then you buff the residue with a clean micro fiber.
