Thread: Cost for Color Matching

    Default Cost for Color Matching

Should I expect my paint house to charge me by the hour to try and dial in a match for my 1970 Cuda? He used a color matching machine to get a code but was unable to locate that color in his book. Now he wants to charge me by the hour with no estimate on how long it could take (even 8 hours). I thought this would have been much easier than this. Very frustrating.

    Default What!

Gee no...just go see a decent jobber...no body charges around here for a machine color match. The machine gave him a color that he does not find in his books? Who uses books anymore...he should have access to an Internet color library with all of the formulaes there.

These old colors are not very difficult to make with a modern set-up...I would find someone else.
    My 2 cents worth...

The most I'd ever charge for tint time is one hour. Eight hours in crazy.

I never get charged for matching and it never takes an hour to do. It sounds like the talk of 8 hours could be a setup to a rip off.

I agree with Serge and Len on that one. Most of the shops i worked for had their own mixing systems and still it never took me more than an hour or so to tint and match colors on older cars.I do see the reason for some jobbers to charge for matching older cars,$10 sounds reasonable but i don`t think 8 hrs is reasonable.
