Thread: Engine compartment-inner fenders, Should I clear coat???

Default Engine compartment-inner fenders, Should I clear coat???

On my '76 Bronco the firewall and engine compartment side of the inner fender panels are the color of the exterior.
I'm using PPG DBC series "Ford Dark Jade Metallic" Do I clear the topcoat in the inside? Or just the DBC color?

I'm not sure Factory Ford Paint was clear-coated on the inside of the engine compartment? Will the DBC suffer without the protection of the clear??
    Thanks

I'm not familiar with DBC, but as a general rule if you use an activater in a urethane base and it is not exposed to the UV you will have an adequate finish. I don't know about your Ford, but most of the newer GMs are not cleared on the unexposed areas.

    Isn't DBC a basecoat?
If it is, then it has to be clearcoated.

as it is a 76 they were single stage metallics usually but me personally i would clear coat it for looks and longevity.

clear coat them. That way it will look nicer plus any oil or dirt that gets on them will wipe of easy
