    Default stopping light rust

I have replaced 1/4 panels on my 50 ford coupe, done a lot of body filling, and have almost finished removing all the old paint down to bare metal, but when I finish I will still have a little filler work to do plus some metal sanding so it will be a while before I will be ready to prime, so my question is what can I put on the bare metal (if anything) to keep it from getting that light surface rust on it before I am ready to prime, and also what is a good prep to use before priming? Also there are a lot of pin prick rust spots where the paint had deteriorated, but when it is sanded in some places it still can be seen but not felt, can I just prime over it or should I do something more before the prime? Thanks for any help BILL

It sounds like Picklex 20 is what you need. Picklex is applied using a pump sprayer or by brushing it on then it's worked in with a scuff pad and wiped off. The result is that it converts any rust on the surface and protects the surface from any further oxidation. When you're ready to prime you scuff the surface and prime with an epoxy primer that contains no acid. This means NO etch primer, no HOK primer and no SPI primer but just about any other epoxy primer will work well.

I've got some stuff that you spray over bare metal and it prevents flash rust. It's a different formula that picklex and doesn't leave a residue though it is a bit sticky to touch (no dust trap though). I use it because it's less than half the price of picklex. I try and keep my picklex for rusty surfaces. PM me for info.
