when painting a motocross style helmet, should adhesion promoter be used on anything besides the plastic parts?

I painted my race car helment... It was Fiberglass/SMC... I just sanded it with 180, filled in some chips with Fiberstand, sanded that with 80, resanded everything with 180, then sanded it again with 320, then wetsanded it with 600 grit, all by hand... Then Primed it with PPG MP-282 High Build Primer... Wetsanded it with 600 grit, then 2 coats of MP-281 Lacquer Primer, wetsanded with 600 grit, final washed it, sealed it with MP-170/MP-175/Reducer Sealer, 3 coats of Hugger Orange Basecoat, then 1 coat of DBC 500 with Prizmatique Rainbow Flakes, followed by 4 coats of clear coat, then wetsanded with 600 grit again, and sprayed 2 more coats of clear... It came out looking smooth as glass
