Default Sanding grit for new vehicle

I need to paint a metallic silver 05 toyota tundra, had small repairs through out vehicle, was going to do a overall. Ques. is on the undamaged paint should I start with 400 paper then 600. Or just use the 600 grit also how much of the existing clear do I need to take off. Will be using rm diamont paint. Thanks

When i am repainting over top of undamage paint,i used 600 finishing film with my airvantage, sand it till its dull, stay off the edges, then used a scuff pad on the edges.

I do the same. If it's just a panel, I'll scuff pad the panel but if it's bigger than that, I use finishing film on all except the edges and body lines and I scuff pad them.

I agree with the other guys. Just sand until the original shine is gone, no point in sanding any further.

I'll chime in with the others. I painted a few parts on a 05 Audi last week using only P600 sheets and a Mirka ABRALON P500 pad (both wet) for prep sanding.

if the factory paint is in good condition leave well enough alone was my thinking
