Wow! thanks Len. You're awsome, as always!
Nailed it right on the head.
I think I would need to read several books or take a few semester of classes to have all those questions answered :goof::?
it's been a while since I've been on the forum, I miss painting, so I got myself a big project.
I'm doing a car from the ground up, different color than the original color on the car. I will...
Resources play a BIG ROLE in "YES! I can do it"
I was wondering, preping for paint on an existing factory paint with the 3M P600 finishing film, and will be painting on factory coat without primer.
Is 3M P600 stickit better? or 3M P600 velcro...
Thanks Len,
I can adjust the gun when there's base in it. However, with the clear coat, it's coming out real clear, and is see thru on my test area, how do I know the settings are good on...
What is the benefit of the Hookit II system anyways? I would be much happier with the regular hookit system. Less items to deal with, better sticking together between the pads. No more conversion...
according to economic theory, when a product is being phased out, we should expect price drops and clearances?
Is there a perfect substitute?
Yes. I was having such a hard time trying to blen a tiny spot. The Plus gun's fan is too large when I moved it farther out, to lighten the spray, my base arrived dried! I will have to invest in...
Thanks Dennis,
Another page into my painting bible.:D
What stripper is that? sold where?
There's a post about Harbor Freight stuff, just do a post and you'll see. I personally do not have experience with any Air Compressor, but most people do not recommend buying thing that has...
We'll see about that 8) I might be a beginner, but I am a gifted Artist8)
smoothed out orange peels and levelling the clears, then I needed to polish to bring the shine back.
Wow! great stuff Dennis, another page for my painting bible.
Thanks.
Dennis and Len are both making perfect sense to me.
My damaged was from the twisted wool pad. I find the twisted wool pad produced much more result from buffing than the foam pad. The foam pad...
Bob K,
I think it was exactly as you've said. I think I've melted the paint and lifted them up. I'll try to sand off, re-base and re-clear.
...
Ok... I think it is not burn thru then. It melted the paint, lifted up a bit, and set it back down. looking like many teeth of a shark.
The only way is to repaint complete bumper? cannot spot...
Ok, burned thru my paint on the front bumper, made a line about 5 inches long. I have little room around burn thru area to blend (about 1 inch lower and I will hit a body groove and about 4 inches...
bondo will work fine, I used bondy on my aluminum hood. sand area w/ 80 grit, bondo up.
I dont know if the Hookit II is it. I think dennis is referring to something else.
Do you carry this "painter's pad" by 3M, Len?
after sanding, I'm directly going to base coat WITHOUT primer, do you still recommend 400?
In preparing a factory paint job for new paint, sanding 600 grit...
is it necessary to sand wet?
or better to do dry?
How does this compares to the Devilbiss disposable liner, I've used the liner, works well. If the inner cup is collapsible, then it would be the same as the disposable liner inside the regular cup?
Worked much better with the twisted wool pad. Almost all scratches gone! I'll probably follow up with orange foam pad just to be sure nothing exists.
Thanks for the input. I'll keep that in mind.
after buffing and polishing with Sure Finish and the orange pad, 1 spent about an hour on a hood, going back and forth...
I had not notice much progress, there is still the dullness and not a deep...
It's your browser that needs updated.
Viewing the website at home on my computer was BEAUTIFUL, but at work, I can't see where the POST button and the REPLY button is, and it looks terrible.
I think the problem is in the D/A, it should be 3/32 when running 1500. Also, an interface pad is needed.
even though, that's exactly what I did, I got some pigtails too. But I didn't use 2k...
Since Len had mentioned that the Trizact last much longer than the finishing film, would it be better to use the Trizact 1500 damped, instead of burning thru all the 1500 finishing film?
I know...
Ok, sounds good. I will try with the wool pad if it takes too long or doesn't get everything out from the orange pad.
Thanks.
"Dennis, you gave a very thorough and detail answer. I think I will need to print this out, laminate it, and post on my wall. There's new information revealed every time I re-read the post. ...
It was my first polishing experience. I used Makita buffer, w/ Orange Pad, and Sure Finish. Surface was done 1000gr, 2000gr, 3000 trizact. I polished and must have passed the area about 5 times,...
I was using those white 3m 1500g film. It seemed that the wavy patterns on the disc disappeared quickly, is it time for a new film? I used the disc. after hand sanding with 1000grit.
And the...
I would recommend it for a beginner learning. It does look a little outdated, but it has good information and technique.
It helped me with the foundation to start.
Do you carry the AirVantage 3/4 pad or the 3M pad mentioned aboved, Len?
Dennis, the Preppin Weapon seems to be mostly for flat surfaces, I'm working on car with lots of curves and where the...
The surfaces looks like the surface of a lake, lots of little soft ups and down. I think I got them too wet.
It looks like the factory finish on most cars.
I guess I would have to block them...
Sorry, My Bad. I didn't the terms right.
I have waves in my clearcoat, not orange peels. Do I need to sand those out? or can I just cut? or buff?
Man... after my first full car w/ the Plus gun...
The whole car had orange peels. I had 2 coats of base, 2 coats of clear. I'm thinking I moved my gun too slow and sprayed too wet. there are...
Activate your base?
I just learned about painting thru this forum, this car was the 2nd time I sprayed a gun 8), I didn't know that you could or need to activate your base.
-does this...
Cool! I'll remove it next time around.
I'll try to sand it off, if it doesn't work, I'll be asking on how to "spot base" that 88GT mentioned in other threads.
Thanks for the great infos from...
painted in my garage, all went well, except of dropping and stepping on some parts I painted.
Anyways... a Mosquito Eater, landed on my hood after my first layer of clear. I was not able to...
Thank you for the replys.
Yes, I will invest in better equipment once I'm able to turn a profit or generate money from my paintings... I'm looking forward to that future moment...8)
