Close up shots. The nice touch was using the last commander's name on the plane. He was Capt. Jim Dodge and after Alameda was closed he thought it best to retire. You see he was the one who asked to...
Next the A7
These planes were known as the gate guardians to the east and north gates of the former Alameda NAS. A friend of mine who helped me with the TBM Avenger was hired by Alameda to take the warbirds down...
Last few shots of headliner. The underside of hood where Chrysler managed to miss about 4-5 inches of the back lip with paint since they painted car with hood on. Then a raw shot of the inside of the...

Closer detail pictures
First picture is from the first month I got it before anything was done besides the brakes. The special wheel covers are on and naturally they are incredibly rare as there are no NOS in the country....
Finally finished the Polara since starting the body work and paint last May. May remember there was some surface rust at the seam of the rear pillar to eliminate along with surface rust and four...
By the way since trucks where mentioned I have a question about the beds. My cab is all painted so the bed is next up. Already knew I need to do the inside first but exactly how. There is the back...
That's easy.
1. many people can't blast metal clean like me. I can only use abrasives.
2. many don't have a climate controlled environment or a spare bedroom for storage.
It doesn't as I use PPG.
To bring this back up here is what the car looks like today after bodywork

Seller says:
CAR NEEDS RT 1/4 REAR BODY SECTION,ALL THE ROUGH PULLS DONE, PAINT AND IT'S DONE!
IF YOU CAN HANDLE THIS TYPE OF REPAIR LET'S TALK ORIGINAL MILES
$3,900
Picture of that 1/4 right...
Considering he has not posted anywhere in the thread, or his profile, where he is located, but sure it isn't near North Juarez, I would think the cost is prohibitive.
What I meant is that I don't have an air compressor for tools only. I use an HLVP 4 stage turbine for painting so epoxy is never an issue. I also have all the needed papers to use with the Makita for...
Sorry for that confusing answer earlier. Apparently my son was practicing his typing abilities and somehow navigated to the forum.
I am about to pull the bed from my 65 F100 so I can start prepping it for paint. It has been my experience that Ford's red primer is pretty tenacious and can resist a couple of coats of aircraft...
I only paint my old cars in single stage urethane and all naturally solid colors. I don't like bc/cc on old cars as the paint looks wrong to my eyes. The depth looks different to me in a way I can't...
When I painted the Polara I had to remove the Dodge nameplate which was glued onto the back of the trunk. It is pot metal so I am wondering what is the best adhesive to put on the back of it so I can...
Someone forgot the intermediate step of some kind of high build primer or primer surfacer.
Might also be more accurate that the PPG data sheet means the base will cover "down" to 400 grit but I'd...
Had the light but didn't have the height. I'll try stands when I paint the big Mercury next year.
Can second that. When I painted the Dodge using PPG Deltron Concept in eggshell white there were some runs on the four lower halfs of each door. After sanding one out I saw the area under the run was...
Wow and mixed at the same time. Well not mixed at the same time if they added to toners to each gallon can separately. Looks like one can was Wimbledon white and the other Bright white. However, that...
Thanks, Robert, I will give it a try later on. Luckily the color of the car is white and hard to see things unless the light, and eyes, are at the right angle to view.
Nice video which in a way makes me even more frustrated. I finished polishing out my new paint two days ago with Wizards, the blue wool pad and Makita 9227. However I have spent all day so far trying...
Don't know where he is located and that may have something to do with it. TCP Global had been selling SS Concept until this September 1st I believe. Actually it had been outlawed in California long...
I have the discs also but awhile back I got some balsa wood, ala Robert, to use in certain areas. I find that the smaller 6" durablocks are not exactly flat unless I put pressure on them in the...
Ben, over at my PPG dealer, would recommend both Deltron DPLF or Omni. He knew I sprayed Concept and he recommended Shopline 202 as a primer filler over epoxy. The difference I see between the two...
PPG epoxy primers are safe whether Deltron, Omni or Shopline.
HOK definitely no and they make it easy by telling you so in their p-sheet unlike others.
Looks like I have to repaint the door after taking out the runs. No issue with taking them out other than the fact that underneath the color is more tan than white and nothing gets rid of that.
Yeah, some solvent pop. I guess a flash time of 15 minutes at 85 degrees wasn't long enough. I did try my hand at removing some droplets lower on the body by cutting off the tops and then sanding...
Only the second time I have painted a whole car at one time. When I did the F100 it was in parts with many laying flat. Still had some OP but a clear coat disc handled it. This time the only part...
One last question, Robert. On the 6040 I always hear to use forced rotation. Makita calls their choices "random orbit" and "roto-orbit". Which one do I need to use?
Edit: Trying to stop your...
Tonight I went over the hood of my 73 Dodge that I painted yesterday. Only needed to do a little work to remove some dust nibs and a trace of orange peel. About 4 times around each section and done....
Strange, but they wouldn't play. Had only a black screen with the spinning white dots while all other youtube videos played just fine???
Just for the fun of it I plugged in a paint name into a paint retailer web site. Used 1968 Ford highland green poly and this is what I got for PPG Deltron DBC.
1 qt. DBC $138
1 qt. reducer $22...
Always wondered about that myself. Looking over several MSDS sheets, which list the chemicals, I don't seem to have seen an acid as much as all kinds of ketones, resins, silicas, zinc phosphate,...
Len may be the one to answer. Tonight I was sitting outside for a BBQ and the Picklex bottle was on the table and I started reading. Got to the point where it said not to use an self etching primer...
While sanding the car, section by section, I have been thinking about how to deal with the door edges. The situation is typical in that there is paint and then spots with no paint. First it needs to...
HOK KD2000 is a 2K primer which would obviously work under the HOK paint. Even the PPG store recommended that same primer to use before painting with their DCC Concept. I am taking up their...
Well there is Reno where it will be available or there is this place with no restrictions I see on California. Eastwood is just being difficult since all their paint is used by hobbyists. I can get...
I will have a total of 224 oz. of paint. I happen to use a 4 stage turbine and an Accuspray gravity gun that I have gotten pretty good with. The gun uses very little paint since overspray is...
I'm reading some good comments about the primer. Will definitely give it a go on top of all my repairs.
So I gather that 7 quarts should be more than enough for the car. Talking with PPG today they recommended House of Color KD2000 as a primer surfacer and being compatible with the Concept line of...
Originally intended to paint the roof of my 73 Polara after I stripped the vinyl off. Then I started to ponder how to deal with the transition area where the vinyl roof ends under the rear trim and...
I agree about the price for white. I just priced PPG Deltron Concept single stage in eggshell white and it was $297/gallon. A quart of DCX61 activator at $100.
$500 for Concept? A gallon no doubt but does that include the DCX61? I will be painting one of my cars, and it is eggshell white, with Concept. The gallon of paint will cost me $297 and the DCX61...
I just ripped off the vinyl roof from my 73 Polara. It was in bad shape but the overall roof is in good shape. No problems at the front window. On the sail it seems Chrysler used a lot of bondo to...
Every now and then we have a really special event. Well, last Saturday the 5th, we had a 70th Anniversary of Doolittle's Raid on Tokyo. Three of the five surviving Raiders were present, a few crew...
