I know someone who put in a glasurit wb system and threw it out for sikkens aquawave and he is very happy.
I don't have much experience with omni products to be honest, but i'd say maybe you're not using a fast enough hardener for your environment?
Im not really sure what i'm going to do at this point to be honest. I just got a second quote on a Zhongda booth. Supposed to be phenomenal but it's made in china. The nice thing about it is they...
what brand booth is it? From what I understand accudraft is one of the only ones with heat makeup that have all the certifications I need for new york city. Where are you located? Where'd you get...
The booth itself cost around 50000. Then with the sprinklers, permits architect etc... It's like 65000 by the time you are all said and done
Well, I finally have the opportunity to expand, and am probably going to do so. A tool supplier I used in the past who i've been fairly happy with highly recommends I use an accudraft booth. He has...
I use liquid mask when a car comes in as well. It's a great product for smaller shops that do not have a spray booth because it really does protect the car from overspray. I use plastic as well, I...
I don't know if this was in response to my post or not. There was no pun intended toward you or your quality of work. You made the comment they got what they payed for meaning they didn't pay much,...
This autumn gold is a nice color. I just did a 70 nova the same exact color with the same black rally stripes. Rally stripes don't belong on the nova but the guy wanted them anyway to mimic his...
yes, I basecoated the entire car gold. Then I waited about 2 hours and masked the stripes, then waited another 30 minutes or so and cleared the entire car.
Heres a couple pics of me masking the stripes

These pictures were taken the day after I sprayed the car, since then I've polished the car and put a lot of it back together, we just haven't had many nice days here to get some quality pics, but...
If the car that you got the overspray on is all original paint, you probably can get away with wiping it off with reducer rather than lacquer thinner. I don't like to make a habit of having to remove...
I know what the tech sheets claim, however, I'd still feel more comfortable scuffing the jams with a red scuff pad at the least.
I was going to recommend the same thing Len did, just spray the straight white toner off a mixing machine...makes it quite easy to repair in the future too.
snap-on does make a little hand power washer that you can hook up to an air line. It's only going to produce how much pressure that your compressor can handle. It's not super strong but is good for...
I painted a set of brake calipers for one of my personal cars once. The way I did it was I thoroughly cleaned them using a parts washer, lacquer thinner and then wax and grease remover. I scuffed...
I've experienced stuff like this with 2k primers. I'm just speaking from my personal experience when I say all the 2k primers I have tried seem to let imperfections through once the panel gets very...
its pretty decent stuff for the money. i used it for a while
Hey guys, i dont know if this is an unrealistic possiblity but i found a car in reno,nv that I want desperately, however im located in ny so its making it kind of rough. Im trying not to fly out...
Just incase you were interested in saving some money. I've used the sikkens polysurfacer and ive also used the evercoat slicksand.
I like the slicksand better. I use it all the time and i produce...
the new orange being used on the chryslers is nice. Saw one the other day..not sure if its the new challenger or what.
Also the vette atomic orange always catche smy eye
i think any clear that is intended for open air use with a faster activator is less likely to run, but everyone is going to have different opinions because everyone uses something different.
Any...
Hah dont feel bad... I know a guy whos been in this business for 20 years..
He went to paint a tailgate..when he went to clear it..he mixed the clear wtih primer hardener.. Didnt realize till the...
haha is it just me? or did he not even have the gas neck covered while he was doing all that grinding and drilling?
i believe according to the manufacturer even the hardners shelf life is 1 year unopened.
Probably isnt worth the risk for a quart its not that expensive.
removing some really isnt going to do the trick. If you break through an edge it may cause more of a problem than if you just tried to spray straight over it.
If your worried about it at all sand...
ive done bc/cc too. Also on my personal car. They held up like the day i finished.
thats probably the best way.
good luck with it
well..you say the hood is hazy. Im going to assume its been repainted before and the clearcoat just died back and this whats causing the haziness.
What i would do is tap in the two high spots, or...
why cant this business just be easier :)
ive done it both ways.
Lesonal/Sikkens also recommends to go big first and gradually get smaller. Ive tried it both ways. Its just a habbit to go small and then big which is what ive stuck...
If your referring to the one labeled supreme without clearcoat, thats probably a fine option. Thats a single stage.
I would go get definite prices....becausee 1000+prep+tax. How much is prep?
what shop is it? is it a chain like maaco?
I like this thread. It is a tough topic. I think its a myth, however there is a rare rare occasion that ill put a bumper on a car and blend the fenders and sometimes the color is slightly off....
your not going to get the car painted for 1200 at a high end shop.
If you want a nice looking paint job that is going to last your looking to spend 2500-3000...which is a reasonable price for a full...
umm if your just reclearing them i wouldnt sand it down with 600. Id sand it down with 1000 or 1200 if your just strickly reclearing.
Have you decided on what product you'll be using yet?
You...
I agree with serge as well.
But another thing worth mentioning is...even if the panel was in very bad shape...and it needed a coat of filler, id still use that slicksand stuff even after doing the...
the wax and grease remover will be fine.
You were saying you would buy prepainted panels and then just have to bodyshop blend the ajacent panels.
Heh it still wouldnt match. The bodyshops paint isnt going to match the prepainted panels you...
its unfortunate you realized there was a striping issue now after you already started wetsanding and polishing. The only cure to fix it at this point is to sand the clear and respray your basecoat...
Do you have another gun you can try?
Your supplier is right, if you shoot the whole car with 2k primer and wetsand it with 400-500 you do not need a sealer.
A sealer is an option if you broke through alot of edges and stuff like that...
I think it probably is solvent pop and i think it may be because your applying too much material at once. You should be spraying two medium wet flowing coats.
You only applying one heavy coat like...
when you say one time pass. Are you telling us that your putting on one coat of clear..with one pass only? and thats it? no second coat or antyhing like that?
It sounds like solvent pop to me...
brillo works on the glass as well.
Dont mean to get off topic, just wanted to let you know they have an epoxy primer with lesonal incase you were interested in staying within the akzo nobel name.
As far as fixing that body work...
It will be fine you can leave it in 2k until your ready to spray your bc/cc.
Another option is...You can seal it now if you want, let it dry and then sand the sealer. You can bc/cc directly over the...
actually i just looked up the color code on my paint sytem..and it came right up. b-197m Glint Wave Blue.
I can mix this color no problem.
Im sure if its popping up on my system all the major...
judging by the pictures..the dent looks like its in the middle of the bumper cover, which is good.
You shouldnt have any problems with color match at all.
Keep the repair small. Sand the whole...
